Emmett and Jessie McCarthy's firstborn of seven children was daughter Ruth M., born February 10, 1902. Twenty-one year old Ruth married (as reported in the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune) her husband Chas. ("Carl") J. Christensen, the son of Nels, a Norwegian immigrant and carpenter, on June 26, 1923 in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic church. Carl was an electrician.

Ruth died at age 37 of unknown causes on November 12, 1939, two years after her mother Jessie's passing in 1937 at age 57, and before her father's passing in 1944. Childbirth complications may have been the possible cause of her death. Her husband Carl enlisted in the Army three years later, in 1942. Possibly Carl and Ruth had no children.

Her husband Carl's death was recorded as Carl J. Christenson in Oneida, Wisconsin September 14, 1979. He had enlisted in the Army as an electrician in 1942 using the same spelling and middle initial. He was born about 1902, and had a brother Arthur 3 years older and a brother Frank 2 years younger. His mother's name was Mina.

Ruth is one of the girls in the photo at right, but as of 2011 she has not been specifically identified. The photo was taken around 1913-14, so Ruth would have been about 12 years old. Possibly she is one of the two seated and hugging girls below the porch railing, with her cousin Mary McGrath on the right nearest the steps, and Ruth on the left.
