Military Services Held for Clarion Naval Pilot Who Was Killed in Crash

CLARION, May 17 - Full military rites were given Lt. JG William Earl McCall, who was killed May 5 in a plane crash in Mexico at his funeral held at 2:30 pm yesterday in Goble Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph Richardson was the officiating minister and military rites were in charge of the Craig E. Fleming Post no. 66 under Commander Thomas Hosack and Russell York, commander of the Navy Reserve Unit in Clarion, and the Parker D. Cramer Post 2145 of the V.F.W.

The firing squad who gave military tribute to the deceased at the services and at the graveside were members of the Army Reserve Unit of Clarion under its commander, Major McClaine, of Miola.

An unusually large representation of servicemen from all branches of the Armed Forces were in attendance and a group of servicemen formed a channel from the door of the funeral home to the hearse, while the body of McCall was being transported from the funeral home to the hearse to be taken to Rimersburg for burial. These men escorted the body to Rimersburg where it was interred. A.A. Murphy, past commander of the American Legion of Clarion, and supervising principal of Clarion Joint Schools read the graveside prayer. The flag which draped the casket of Lt. McCall was then presented to his widow, Mrs. Dolores Geer McCall.

Lt. McCall was born in Curllsville, November 24, 1927, the son of William Robert and Myra Bashline McCall. He married Dolores Marie Geer on January 9, 1950 and was the father of two children, Marsha Sue, three; and Monica Marie, two.

He was a member of the V.F.W. of Clarion, the American Legion at New Welmington and a World War II veteran.

Beside his wife and daughters, he is survived by his parents and the following sisters, Mrs. William Downs of Eglin Field, Florida and Roberta, at home. Pallbearers at the funeral were: Robert Campbell, Jack Rowan, William Freas, William Ganoe, Lloyd McEntire, and William Beck. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Courson, Arthur Williams, Melvin Roberts, Jay Wolfe, Frank Zilhaver, Don Shoup and Fred Sharrow.
