MCAULIFFE, Walter M. ‘Susie'
BUTTE – Funeral services for Walter M. "Susie" McAuliffe, 75, of Butte and Thompson Falls were held Thursday, Aug. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Butte.
Mr. McAuliffe died Aug. 20, 1995 in a Butte hospital.
He was born Oct 6, 1919 at St. Ignatius to Walter and Penelope (Welsh) McAuliffe. He grew up near Mill Creek and was graduated from Anaconda High School and the Montana School of Mines (Montana Tech) at Butte.
Following his service with the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II, Walter and Rosemary Baker of Deer Lodge were married July 3, 1948.
He worked as a shift boss and planning engineer for the Anaconda Company in several underground mines where his co-workers knew him as "Susie."
He loved sports and played football at Anaconda High and at the School of Mines. In recent years, he bowled in several leagues.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of Butte and Osprey Dr. at Thompson Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen McAuliffe and Steven Barry, Portland, Ore.; Deidre McAuliffe and Roger Haick, Loon Lake, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Ann McAuliffe, Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Jack McAuliffe, San Francisco, Calif.; and Dick McAuliffe, Spokane, Wash.; and two sisters, Dawn O'Neill, San Francisco; and Verna Schoen, Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis, and a brother, Fred.
Arrangements were by Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home of Butte.
