NOCONA — Sergeant Major Ret. Harold "Mack" McAlvain, of Nocona, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in Nocona.

McAlvain was born Dev. 15, 1932 in Oologah, Okla., to Sarah "Louise" Woodside and William "Polk" McAlvain.

Funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Jean's Men's Bible Class in Nocona.

Interment will be in Nocona Cemetery.

Survivors include children, Richard McAlvain of Oklahoma City, Okla., Patricia London and husband Bill of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kevin McAlvain and Tammy of Oklahoma City, Okla., Carrie Haslacker and husband Steven of Clarksville, Texas; stepchildren, Sherry King and husband Dale of Bridgeport Tony Martin and wife Lisa of Sanger, Leslie Martin and wife Charlene Winniewood of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward L. McAlvain of Wichita Falls; sister-in-law, Jackie McAlvain of Seminole, Okla.

Mack graduated from Oologah High School in 1950 and then joined the service and served his country in the US Air Force, he retired after 33 years of service, and the rank of Sergeant Major. He was active in the VFW Bowie Post, the DAV, the American Legion Post 252 of Bowie, where he served as Commander.

He was a member of the Choctaw Nation of Okla.

Was a faithful member of Jean's Men's Bible Class, and enjoyed the social coffee hour. Mack was very active in the Nocona Cemetery Association.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents Polk & Louise McAlvain, a brother James McAlvain, and his wife Helen Womack McAlvain in 1999.

The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.

Funeral is under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
