PIONEER RESIDENT OF THORP PASSES - MRS. MARTHA A. MATTOX HAD RESIDED IN KITTITAS VALLEY FOR 33 YEARS -
Mrs. Martha A. Mattox, who has been ill for several weeks, passed away this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Morrison of Thorp, at the age of 75 years.
Mrs. Mattox, who was married in 1847 to William Mattox, deceased, came with her husband and six children from Missouri 33 years ago to Kittitas county and has since resided in the Thorp vicinity.
She is survived by a brother, John Maynard of Terre Haute, Ind., and six children: Mrs. Mary Morrison, Mrs. Eva Hatfield and Clifford Mattox of Thorp, Elmer Mattox of Ellensburg, Mrs. Callie Cross and William P. Mattox of Benton City, also a number of grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Mattox had been a member of the Christian church for 59 years. She leaves a large number of friends in the community who sincerely mourn her loss.
Funeral services will be held at the Thorp Christian church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Max E. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Thorp cemetery.
