David Henley Mauzy was the eldest of two sons born to H. Louis and Gladys Mauzy. His grandmother, Sara (Monroe) Henley took him on a trip to Bermuda in 1926; the passenger list of their return in May of that year is available at Ancestry.com.

During WWII, he entered active duty with the US Air Force, serving from 21 Aug 1943--19 May 1946. A hometown news report of his pending discharge in 1946 stated that during the war his unit had been awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation, and that he had been presented with the Eastern-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal as the French Croix de Guerre.

At the time of his death David was divorced. His mother was the informant on his death certificate.
