June Lee (Mattingley) Zendell, 91, of Newburgh, Indiana formerly of Rockport, Indiana died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at North Park Nursing Home of congestive heart failure. She was the daughter of Ray Squier and Ada (Herrell) Mattingley. She was an avid reader and writer. She was past worthy matron of the Eureka Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and had been a member of a number of women's organizations. She was also a member of Temple Adath B'nai Israel. She and her late husband, Emanuel Zendell, had owned Zendell's Delicatessen in Evansville and Green Gables restaurant in Henderson, KY. along with several other businesses. June was a supporter of the Democratic Party. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Abe) Givon, her son, David (Jan) Zendell, two granddaughters, Karen (David) Feder and Jade (Brandon) Ridge, four great-grandchildren, Orli and Ari Feder and Amelie and Myles Ridge. Also surviving are nieces, Emily Girtman and her daughter Julie Ann Harmon, Eve Mattingley-Hannigan and Ann Mattingley, and nephews Mike and John Todd. She was preceded in death by her husband Emanuel Zendell, her son Joseph Zendell, her brother Ray Mattingley, her sister, Julia Mary Hempen and her nieces Mary Todd and Caroline Girtman. Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Indiana with Rabbi David Feder and Rabbi Helen Bar-Yaacov officiating. Burial is in Adath Israel Jewish Cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky. Visitation is from 2 P.M. until 6 P.M. Saturday, June 11, 2011 and from 10 A.M. until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 5 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the library of your choice and Temple Adath B'nai Israel.
