Death came Thursday, Feb. 3, 1955, at her home in Douglass, where she lived with Mrs. Edith Engle, to Mrs. Annetta Engle 75, after a short illness.
Annetta Mathis was born April 11, 1878 near Cincinnati, Ohio, eldest daughter of Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Mathis. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1885. They lived near Augusta for years, then moved to Douglass.
She was married to Bertram H. Engle, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1941. Her daughter, Mrs. Mary Robinson, passed away in 1946. After her death Mrs. Engle went to live with her son, Brady L. Engle, in Texas; then moved to Norwalk, Calif. Her health failed and she came to Douglass to live with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Edith Engle.
She is survived by the son B.L.Engle and his wife, Robbstown, Texas; one sister, Mrs. W. J. Heingman, Pueblo, Colorado, a brother, George Mathis of National City, California, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hilyard Funeral Home in Douglass, conducted by Rev. Karl O. Magnusson. Singers were Miss Maude Haver, Mrs. W. G. Kunkel, Harry Robinson and Elmer Elder, with Mrs. C. A. Ogg as accompanist.
Burial was in Douglass Cemetery in charge of Hilyard Funeral Home. Bearers were Walter Martin, Glenn E. Duryea, C. S. Scott, A. W. Scott, W. E. Allen and Carmin Sprague.
