PEORIA, IL - Luke Matarelli, 79, of Peoria passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at 9:20 a.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born on June 1, 1926, in Toluca, Ill., to Luca and Teresa Antonacci Matarelli, he married Norma Lea Fisher on Jan. 10, 1948, in Peoria. She survives.

Luke is survived by one son, Luke Randall Matarelli of Peoria; and five daughters, Tonya Kay (Dallas of Glasford) Sumpter of Florida, Pamela Rae Matarelli of Chicago, Lu Ann Lea Freeman of Magnolia, Texas, Lynn (Keith Bufano) Matarelli of Keller, Texas, and Renee Sue Matarelli of St. Petersburg, Fla. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his brother, Frank Matarelli of San Francisco, Calif.; and one sister, Irma Barden of Peoria.

Luke was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe and Don Matarelli ; and two sisters, Clara Hunter and Jenny Kaufman.

Luke served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 on an aircraft carrier during WWII.

He attended Bradley University, where he majored in architectural engineering and drawing.

He was a businessman in Peoria for over 50 years. Luke was a building contractor and real estate developer, owning and operating L. Matarelli & Son Construction, along with Matarelli Equipment, Matarelli Fine Furniture, Peoria Trading Post and L.M. Enterprises, and was a managing partner in Mid-Land Trust along with other businesses. Luke was well respected in the business community.

He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, but also attended Sacred Heart and St. Sharbel's Catholic churches, all of Peoria.

He was a past member of Sunset Hills Country Club. Luke loved golfing and was an avid collector.

Luke was loved dearly by family & friends and will be greatly missed.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
