MOREHEAD — Larry Melvin Mason, 66, of Newport, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Carteret General Hospital.

Mr. Larry was a member of Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. He was a basketball coach for many years.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Amariah Garner Cemetery with Rev. Ray Conner officiating, followed by Lt. Gen. Randall West.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Jean Mason of the home; daughter, Renee Mason of Newport; two sons, Larry Lin Mason of Richmond, VA and Allen Mason of Beaufort; three sisters, Faye Pilcher and husband Dan of Sanford, Brenda Dickens and husband Richard of Cameron and Shirley Bullock and husband Ricky of Sanford; and six grandchildren, Eric Wilson, Jr., Kristin Wilson, Tiphanie Mason, Amanda Mason, Allison Mason and Samantha Mason.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, Family Life Center Building Fund, 850 Nine Foot Rd, Newport, NC 28570.
