Guadalupe L. Martinez, 83, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 11, 2005 at his residence.

He was born August 13, 1922 in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and was married to the love of his life, Erminia Berlanga in Lubbock Oct. 19, 1947. The couple shared many happy times until her death, Aug. 2, 1993. They loved antique collecting; he loved fishing and gardening. He was retired from United Van Lines in 1985.

To this union were born four daughters, Mary Helen Valdez, Becky Molina, and Patty Esquinel, all of Lubbock, and Lucy Martinez, of Dallas; three sons, Ruben, of San Antonio, Guadalupe Jr., of Lubbock and Jesse Olivas, of Fort Worth; 21 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. His sister, Maria Gonzalez of Monterey, N. L., Mexico, survives.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jose Lozano Martinez. Rosary services will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005 in W.W. Rix Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection is scheduled for 10 a. m. Monday in St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5802 22nd Street, with the Rev. Gerry Kenney officiating. Interment will be in Peaceful Gardens.
