Stella was a lifelong resident of El Rito. She passed away at the St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe following a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by son Mauricio Jr. in 1982.
Stella was survived by her husband Mauricio Sr.; daughters Georgina Fassett of Pacifica, California and Joyce Romo of of Mora; sons Victor of Lubbock, Texas, Michael Chavez, Alfred Chavez, and Johnny Ortiz of El Rito; sister Clorinda Chavez of Daly City, California; brother Tony J. Martinez of El Rito; 9 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Rosary was recited on 21 Jun 1990 at the San Juan de Nepomuseno Church in El Rito. Funeral services were 22 Jun 1990 in the same church. Burial was in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Vianes Trujillo, Kenny Trujillo, Abedon Trujillo, Ventura Romero, Pete Archuleta, and Andrew Chavez.
