COL. MARTINDALE DIES SUDDENLY AT FORT SCOTT


Col. Elijah B. Martindale Jr., 53 years old, Coast Artillary Corps, U.S.A., died suddenly yesterday of heart disease at Fort Winfield Scott, San Francisco, Cal., according to word received by his brother, Charles Martindale, Indianapolis attorney.

Col. Martindale was the son of the late Elijah B. Martindale, and was born in Indianapolis. He was commissioned second lieutenant during the Spanish-American War and served in Cuba, Phillipines and during the World War France.


Awarded:

Order of University Palms, Officer of Public Instruction (France)

Served in command of Debarkation Camp, Marseilles, France in WW1


Surviving are the widow Lucie Hitch Martindale, who was visiting relatives at Paris, Ill., at the time of her husband's death; a daughter Mrs. Robert P. Clay, who is in route from Honalulu to San Francisco with her husband Lt. Robert C. Clay U.S.A; a sister Miss Emma Martindale of Harbor Springs, Michigan, and four brothers, Charles Martindale, Lynn B. Martindale, John T. Martindale all of Indianapolis and Clarence Martindale of Nice, France.

The body will be brought here for burial, the brother said.
