Mrs. Ida Rebecca Doede, wife of Rev. F. W. Doede, pastor of Holland's Grove Circuit, Illinois Conference, of the Evangelical Association; and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Martin, was born at Naperville, Ill., July 21st, 1870, and died in triumph of Christian faith, in her home at Holland's Grove, Ill.,(renamed Washington) Jan. 5th, 1909 - aged 38 years, 5 months and 26 days.
The life of the departed was signally blessed of God from her youth. Through early Christian training a good foundation was laid to her character, and through the Christian privileges which she appropriated and to which she unwaveringly held in life, she became very useful in the Christian church of God.
In her 14th year she was converted to God and joined the Evangelical Association, to which she proved a faithful member to the end of her life.
On June 18th, 1902, she joined Rev. F. W. Doede in holy matrimony and moved out on the field of gospel service with him. On the large and extended fields of labor, such as Grand Prairie, Mt. Carroll and Holland's Grove, which they served, she found ample opportunity to exercise patience and self-sacrifice. With true love to her husband and to all the work of the Lord, which ever lay on her heart, she bore the burdens without a murmur.
This was a happy union, and, from a human standpoint, altogether too soon severed. The two dear little children must suffer a loss that earth never can fully repair. Three children were born to them, of which the youngest lived but one day, thus preceding the mother to the glory world by a few days.
Mrs. Doede was a true and devoted wife, caring tenderly for the best welfare of her companion. As a mother she loved and cared for her dear children with tenderest affection. She was ever characterized by Christian economy, humility and consecration to her loved ones and to her God. Through these splendid spiritual gifts she won and held the high esteem of those who knew her.
One can easily imagine that it must have been hard for her to leave her family so early, since it seemed necessary that she should remain longer. However, with perfect submission to providence and simple trust in Him, who never errs and ever loves us, she resigned her will and died in peace.
On Tuesday morning, Jan. 5th, with deep emotion, she bade her dear ones good bye. With uplifted and outspread hands, as though she were bidding her Saviour welcome she sang with a clear voice, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me." She rallied again until the evening.
Her suffering, though of short duration, was intense, but she bore it all very patiently.
She became suddenly ill on Dec. 30th, and medical aid was summoned. Everything possible was done for her, but despite all efforts pneumonia set in. On Dec. 31st, a little baby girl was born, which died the next day. She sweetly slumbered away in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, Jan. 5th, at 7:20.
A funeral service was held in the Holland's Grove church, where they have lived almost 4 years. Rev. F. F. Jordan, Presiding Elder, of Peoria District, conducted the service. A goodly number of ministers were present. Rev. W. A. Schutte, Presiding Elder of the Chicago District, preached the sermon.
Another impressive service was held in Zion Evangelical church, of Naperville, on Friday, at 1 p.m. Rev. Jordan conducted the services. Six of the ministers acted as pall bearers, Prof. S. L. Umbach spoke in German, Pres. H. J. Kiekhoefer in English. Nearly thirty ministers were present. Interment was made in our beautiful resting place.
