He was born in Richmond County to the Joseph Hartwell and Katherine Allen Marshall, Jr. He moved from Columbia County to Lincoln County in 1992. John was an Army veteran.
He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
He was an avid amateur radio operator whose call sign was "WA4KNS", he was a member of the Amateur Radio Club of the CSRA and of Ducks Unlimited. A Baptist by faith, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Evans.
Mr. Marshall was predeceased by his son, John William (Billy) Marshall, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Nina Weeks Marshall; sons, Brian Stephen Marshall and Jason Christopher (Hope) Marshall; brothers, Dr. Joseph Hartwell Marshall III, Allen Daniel "Dan" Marshall, Rubert Reese "Rusty" Marshall and Dr. Jabez Orion "Buddy" Marshall; grandson, Jacob Aubrey "Jake" Marshall.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 2nd between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence at 1310 Poland Road. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
