Ann Magruder Grabill Marshall, 76, of Woodstock, Virginia, died peacefully on March 13, 2010, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia.
Mrs. Marshall was born in Woodstock, Virginia, on March 20, 1933, the daughter of the late John Henry Grabill, II and Nellie Supinger Grabill.
Mrs. Marshall graduated from Woodstock High School in 1951 and attended Madison College, where she studied business. She continued her professional development in accounting and data processing until 1981 in Northern Virginia.
On June 6, 1956, she married Robert Samuel Marshall, in Woodstock, Virginia. They first set up housekeeping in Winchester, Virginia and later moved to Fairfax, Virginia. In 1966, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia where they lived for the next forty years until returning to Woodstock.
During Mrs. Marshall's professional career, she held a variety of credit accounting positions in Fairfax County, at Consumers Finance, MELPAR, JC Penney, and General Electric Credit. She retired from the Department of Defense in 1994, where she received a variety of awards and commendations.
Mrs. Marshall was a member of Bush Hill Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, Virginia, since 1967, where she served as an elected financial secretary and auditor for twenty-five years. When she returned to Woodstock, Virginia, she attended Woodstock Presbyterian Church where she served on the nominating committee. She was a volunteer at Fairfax County Elementary Schools, Meals-On-Wheels, and the Woodstock Library. In addition, she was a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Samuel Marshall, of Woodstock, Virginia; a daughter Margaret Elizabeth Marshall Gordon (Eric) of Charlestown, Indiana; a grandson Jared Marshall Gordon; a brother William David Grabill (Margaret); a nephew William David Grabill, Jr.; nieces Karen Grabill Klooster (James), Susan Lee Grabill, Linda Grabill Toothman (Alan), Jacklynn Deanna Grabill; and special cousins Dr. Jacob Haun (Diane) and Helen Ritter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother John Henry Grabill III; aunt Margaret Grabill Jones; uncle Philip Magruder Grabill; and cousin Philip Magruder Grabill, Jr.
A public memorial service will be held at Woodstock Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on March 17, 2010, with Reverend Lisa Webb officiating, followed by a reception. A private burial service for family will be held at Massanutten Cemetery, Woodstock, Virginia.
Honorary pallbearers will include John D. Hardesty, John D. Hardesty Jr., David M. Hardesty, Dr. Jacob Haun, Frank Lambert, Joe Lambert, and Ralph Sheetz.
