Civil War officer. Col. James K. Marshall assumed command of Brig. Gen. James J. Pettigrew's Brigade when the latter took command of Heth's Division on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. Marshall led the brigade into Pickett's Charge and fell dead within 50 yards of the Uion lines near the Bryan Barn on Cemetery Ridge.

His remains were buried on the field with his men, and were probably removed to Hollywood Cemetery in the 19870s. The site of his grave is unknown and unmarked.

His family's plot is located at Leed's Espicopal Churchyard in Hume, near Markham, Va., and a bronze plaque is on the front wall of the church that bears his name. There is no proper cenotaph in the family plot behind the church.
