JoAnn Eells Maphet was born on the family farm near Gate on August 18, 1934 to Jim and Zola Eells. She returned to her Lord on April 30, 2016 at Parkview Pointe. JoAnn moved with her family to Idaho when she was two. She grew up near Caldwell, Idaho where her family farmed. JoAnn attended Knowlton Heights School where she excelled in her classes and made many friends. Her childhood was filled with family, work, school and playing in the irrigation ditches after school.

In the summer of 1951 she met her future husband when he made a trip to Idaho to cut wheat. JoAnn and Bill were married on May 15 1952 in Homedale and returned to Rosston where they farmed until 1954, when Bill was re-inducted into the Army. JoAnn became a military wife and moved to Germany to be with her husband. In 1956, they returned to Gate and began farming. In November 1962, JoAnn became a mother when she and Bill adopted a son, Greg; and the family became even larger when in July of 1964 the couple adopted another son, Wendell.

JoAnn was raised in the True Followers of Christ Church and regularly attended the Rosston Methodist church into which she was baptized in April 2016. JoAnn loved to play the piano and regularly entertained family and friends. She loved to fuss with the dogs and cats and attend Senior Citizen Dances with her husband. She was a model of selfless love and service to her husband and family and a loyal servant of the Lord. Her husband served on the Board of Directors of both the Farmers and Rural Electric Coops and she enjoyed traveling with him all over the U.S. Both Bill and JoAnn grew up in a time of little electricity and appreciated the opportunity to serve on the board. In 1981, JoAnn had her first open heart surgery. She was a model of fortitude and endurance as she overcame many bouts of illness. Wendell brought great joy to her life when he gave her two grandchildren, Hayley and Kaleb. They were the light of her life.

In 1999, after her husband passed, JoAnn moved to Laverne and began a new chapter of her life. JoAnn was active with the Laverne Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed hosting her kids and grandkids in her home as much as possible. When Parkview Pointe opened JoAnn became one of its earliest residents. She loved the people and staff and came to regard Parkview as her home. JoAnn passed away in her beloved home on April 30, 2016 after a protracted illness.

She leaves behind her sons, Greg of Shawnee and Wendell of Mustang, grandchildren Hayley and Kaleb and brother Gary Eells of Homedale, Idaho and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceeded in death by parents James and Zola Eells, husband Bill Maphet and brother David Eells.
