Clifton Vernon "Sam" Maness, 85, of 410 Gary Street, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 1, 2013, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Mickey Maness delivering the euology.

Mr. Maness was born on December 2, 1927, in Montgomery County to Ed Vernon and Bertha Britt Maness. He was retired from Springs Inc, Aileen Plant and was a veteran of the US Navy.

He is survived by his sons, Donnie Maness and wife, Brenda, of Biscoe, Ronnie Maness and wife, Jamie, of Bristol, TN; sisters, Shirley Johnson and husband, Paige, of Concord, Evelyine Bollinger of Gastonia; brother, Mickey Maness and wife, Elenor, of Raleigh; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Good ' Ol Boys", c/o Claude Thompson, 220 Green Street, Biscoe, NC 27209.
