Vibs Grayson, 89, of Mantua, Ohio, died on September 25, 2012, at Emeritus of Ravenna. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Dr. Harry A. and Elsie ( Latin) Mailman. After graduating from Glenville High School in Cleveland in 1941, she began her college studies at Ohio University, graduating from Western Reserve's Flora Stone Mather College with a bachelor's degree in dietetics and chemistry in 1945. Married to Daniel S. Grayson on June 2, 1946, Vibs worked as a licensed dietician for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company while he finished dental school. In 1949, they moved to Mantua, Ohio, where Dr. Grayson began his dental practice and they began their life as a family. Daughter Amy was born in late 1949, their son, Andy, in 1956. Over the years, she participated in many of her husband's interests, from gardening, to skeet shooting, canning and wine-making , raising Labrador retrievers and Bouviers, Shetland ponies, chickens, and beef cattle. In the 1950's and 1960's, her husband was the announcer of the Mantua Rotary Club Horse Show on the grounds of Crestwood High School, and Vibs ran the food concession stand, purchasing, cooking, and serving the food offered for sale during the event. Vibs and her family took great pride in her cooking and baking; she was an avid reader, adding knitting and hooked rug making to her skills. She became interested in photography, taking many wonderful photos of her friends and family. She was a reserved person, with friends that were made in her youth lasting throughout her life. Especially important to her was her friendship with Ruth Marden Woodward; Ruth and her husband and children were "imports" to Mantua from Massachusetts with whom Vibs and her family had many happy times. They continued communicating well into their late eighties. She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Charles in 1977, her husband, Daniel S. in 2005, her son-in-law, Philip D. McCoy in 2010, and her siblings, Jerry Mailman and Jeanne Kaplan . Her daughter, Amy G. McCoy of Freedom Township and her grandchildren, Sarah Irene McCoy and Samuel Andrew McCoy succeed her, as do her brother- in-law, Robert (Roberta) Grayson of Florida, three nieces, and two nephews. Graveside services will be held Sunday September 30,2012, 11:00 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery, Mantua Village, Ohio, with Rabbi Susan Stone officiating.Immediately following the services, a traditional period of mourning will follow at the Mantua Knights of Columbus Hall, 11845 State Route 44, where friends are invited to join her family. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Andy Grayson Memorial Fund, in care of the Crestwood Local School District, 4565 West Prospect Street, Mantua, Ohio 44255. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
