Extended Illness Claims Life Of Denmark Native Mrs. Samena Carolyn Madsen Andreasen, 81, long-time resident of Redmond, died January 6th at 10:50 p.m. in the Gunnison Valley Hospital after an extrended illness, and following a stroke. She was born September 22, 1879 in Saby, Denmark, a daughter of Paul and Kisten Madsen. At the age of eight years, she came to America, and made a home with a grandmother in Redmond. A few years later, she was joined by her parents. July 5, 1898, she married Peter Niels Andreasen, and the couple have always made Redmond their home. Mrs. Andreasen has been a devoted member of the L.D.S. Church, and was active in the auxiliaries until ill health forced her to curtail her work. She is survived by her husband two sons and two daughters, Mecheal Andreasen of Gunnison; Edwin Andreasen, Milford; Mrs. Dan (Nada) Anderson, Sterling; Mrs. Periscon (Tola) Peterson, Redmond; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Redmond Ward L.D.S. Chapel, with burial in the Redmond Cemetery. Bishop Jay Christensen conducted the following program at the chapel: Song by Singing Mothers, "The Lord is My Shepherd;" invocation, Morving Larsen; history of Mrs. Andreasen, Leona Mickelsen; song, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," Cleon Nelson, accompanied by Eda Jensen; speaker, Orvil Jensen; musical reading by Mrs. George Sheppard, accompanied by Faye Hampton; speaker, Doug Jernsen; song, "Rock of Ages," Singing Mothers; benediction, LaMar Bosshardt. Dedication of the grave was by Vernal Nelson.
