Charles was the son of Joseph Jenkins and Catherine Johnson "Kate" [Devereux] MacKay. He married Elizabeth Davis Mordecai, daughter of Dr. Samuel Fox Mordecai, II, {Trinity College Dean} and Elizabeth "Bettie" [Grimes] Mordecai. They were married in Durham, NC at Trinity College at her parents home on 19 Feb 1914.
They were the parents of one son, who died at the age of 21.
