GEORGIA - Linda Jean Elliott, 63, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with her loving family at her side. She was born in St. Albans on July 30, 1943, the daughter of the late Roger C. and Lucille (Barrett) MacCallum. On July 3, 1974, at the former St. Albans Radar Base, she married William H. Elliott III, who survives her.
Linda was a 1961 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She worked for A.N. Deringer Insurance Company for three years and then traveled extensively with her first husband, who was in the Navy. Linda returned to St. Albans in 1971 to start a new life for herself and her four children. She worked at the Champlain Motel, the Owl Club, the St. Albans Air Force Station NCO Club, and managed the Champlain Country Club kitchen facility to make ends meet for her family. She met MSGT William (Bill) Elliott through her association with the Air Force Station. Following an assignment to Germany, Bill and Linda retired from the Air Force and returned to Vermont, where they settled in Georgia to finish raising their family. For many years Linda worked in the State Foster Care Program, both as a care provider and as a trainer for new foster parents. In 1990, she was recognized by the State of Vermont with the Commissioner?s Award for Outstanding Service to Children. Due to ill health, she was forced to drop out of the foster care program, but continued to contribute to the children of her community as a volunteer at the Georgia Elementary School. Many of her previous foster children kept in touch through the years.
She was a lifetime member of St. Luke?s Episcopal Church, very active in several local women?s organizations and was President of both the Georgia Home Dem Group and the St. Albans Circle of King?s Daughters, the Service Seekers. She was also a member of Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veteran?s of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. Linda thoroughly enjoyed doing all types of crafts and always had something in process. The residents of the King?s Daughter?s Home in St. Albans will surely miss all the little goodies and crafts she made and brought to them whenever she visited.

Elliott and his wife, Trish of St. Albans; her daughters, Christine C. and husband, Jim Bennett of Madison, Ala., Carla L. Baltzell and her husband, Mark of Swanton and Melissa M. Elliott of Georgia; her 10 grandchildren: Jasmine, Miranda, Brett, Tatiana, Taylor, Jacob, Brooke, Nathaniel, Mykala and Parker; her three brothers, Roger A. MacCallum and his wife, Judy of Inverness, Fla., David R. MacCallum and his wife, Gail of St. Albans and Gene C. MacCallum and his wife, Sandra of Swanton; a special aunt, Janet MacCallum of St. Albans; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a special former father-in-law, Carlton ?Nick? Frazier.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Dennis E. Hayward officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
