Wife of Junior Ralph Maassen. Daughter of Roy Monroe Briggs and Louise Marilyn Montgomery

Louise Genevieve Maassen, the first born of Roy Monroe and Louise Marilyn (Montgomery) Briggs, was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Lucas County, Iowa. She passed away Dec. 24, 1993, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, of cancer at the age of 59.

Louise, better known as Gen or Jenny, to family and friends, lived on the family farm and grew up helping to care for her seven younger brothers and sisters. When she entered high school, she began babysitting and doing restaurant work after school. Gen graduated from Chariton Community High School in 1953.

On September 16, 1953, Gen was united in marriage to J. R. Maassen in Rolfe, Iowa. They raised four children, Lon, Kelly Jo, Lee Ann and Terri Lynn.

Jenny was a very active person and had to be doing something all the time. Some of her favorite pastimes were dancing, crafts, such as ceramics, bowling, cooking and playing cards. She couldn't stand seeing others do without and often times she took those into her home, who had nowhere else to go, until they could get back on their feet.

Jenny, you will be sorely missed by everyone who knew you and loved you.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Terri Lynn, and one sister.

Jennie is survived by her parents, Roy and Louise Briggs of Williamson; one son, Lon Alan Maassenn of Rock Island, Ill.; two daughters, Kelly Jo Fields of Coppers Grove, Texas and Lee Ann Maassen of Altoona; four sisters, Darlene Chadwick of Des Moines, Retta Chiri, Sandra Shriver and Carol Forst, all of Williamson; three brothers, E.E. (Gene) Briggs of Grimes, Roy Briggs Jr., of Des Moines and Larry Briggs, also of Des Moines; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as many, many friends.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 27, 1993, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. James Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Chariton Cemetery.
