Lucille Lutz Bumgarner, 94, of Abernethy Laurels, Newton, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Abernethy Laurels.

Born Sept. 30, 1910, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late William Raymond and Bessie Bost Lutz.


She was a lifelong member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Senior Friends group, Women of the Church and various other committees. She was a homemaker and a member of the Homemaker's Club of Catawba County, which, in 1976, presented her with the "Mother of the Year Award."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Cloyd Randolph Bumgarner; a daughter, Helen B. Kanipe; and four brothers, Frank Lutz, James Lutz, Phillip Lutz and Floyd Lutz.


Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Diana Bumgarner and W.R. and Connie Bumgarner of Newton; a daughter and two sons-in-law, Myra and Ted Hefner of Hickory and Charles Kanipe of Newton; a brother, W.R. Lutz of Newton; a sister, Alice Seitz of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Startown Road in Hickory. The Rev. Randall Cauble will officiate.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Grandsons of Mrs. Bumgarner will serve as pallbearers.
