He greatly enjoyed hunting in his leisure time and had taken extended hunting trips to the western United States, Africa and had several overseas hunting expeditions planned for the near future.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, to whom he was married for more than 52 years; two sons, Randy J. (Diane) Lutter and Dexter A. (Cindy) Lutter, both of rural LaOtto; four brothers, Clarence Lutter and Ralph (Lois) Lutter, both of LaOtto; Bill (Della) Lutter of Huntertown, and Bob (Sharon) Lutter of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gwendoline E. "Gwen" Liggett.
The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with pastor Sue Socha of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, or one hour prior to the service. Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Interment, with military graveside rites, is at Bethlehem Cemetery, north of LaOtto.
