Marjorie Signora Bohlen, 88, of Allison, Iowa passed away June 14, 2012 at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, IA . Marjorie was born April 27, 1924 at Nora Springs, Iowa to Melvin and Sena (Sponheim) Lunde. Marjorie attended Nora Springs HS where she played basketball and was a member of the music program. After graduation from high school, she attended Luther College for two years earning her teaching degree. Marjorie married Freddie A. Bohlen on January 16, 1949, at the Lunde family farm at Nora Springs. She always had a goal of earning her four year bachelors degree before her boys graduated from college. She achieved her goal in 1969, when she graduated from Wartburg College after taking college classes at night and during summer school.
Marjorie taught school in the Greene, Osage, and Allison-Bristow School Districts for 35 years, with 31 of those years at Allison. While at Allison, she mainly taught kindergarten, which she loved doing. She loved to relate stories of what her students did and said at school. Marjorie enjoyed attending her son's school and Scouting activities. Later she enjoyed traveling to Illinois and Washington state to see her sons and their families. While visiting them, she got to attend many of her grandchildren's sports and school activities.
Marjorie enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, playing the piano, and cooking. Marjorie was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Mission and other activities. She will be remembered as a calming and supportive person by her family, friends, and students, no matter how tragic the situation seemed.
Marjorie is survived by son, Robert & wife, Kathy Bohlen of Spokane; son, Marvin Bohlen & wife, Robin Kahn of Spokane; brother in law, Alvin and wife Leone Bohlen of Allison, sister in law, Irene Poppen of Allison, grandchildren: Forrest Bohlen of Boise, ID; Bret Bohlen of Spokane, Bryce Bohlen of Bellingham, WA; and Mitch Leppo of Seattle, WA, and great-granddaughter, Kenley Ryan Bohlen of Spokane. Special thanks from the family want to be expressed to the Allison Care Center, Elm Springs Apts., Cedar Valley Hospice, and especially to the Allison community. Donations will be accepted in her name at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison and at Wilders Pond of Allison c/o Dr. George North.
