I've pressed on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has promised. God has called me homeward in Christ Jesus and I am Home.
Jeanette was born April 13, 1940, in Shamrock to Waddie and Lucia Beach Lummus. The family moved to Sunray in 1946. She attended school there and was very active in the Girls Auxiliary of the First Baptist Church.
She moved to Dumas in 1964 where she met and married her husband John B. Anderson. She was a member and served as pianist and later organist at Calvary Baptist Church and later joined the Temple Baptist Church where she served on the instrument until her health forced her to stop. In the '70s Mrs. Anderson was very active in the Pilot Club. She was chairwoman of the committee that drew plans and led the Club in helping to raise funds to pay for the blue granite monument known as the "Living Flame Monument." She was responsible for the inscription, and during this time she also wrote the second stanza for the Pilot Club International theme song, which was later adopted at the State Convention. There are Pilot Clubs in seven foreign countries where the song is used and sung. Jeanette also worked with her husband in the Fire Department distributing Toys for Tots and was made an honorary Fire Department member in 1989.
Jeanette was known to the public by working at Dumas Nursing Home, Dumas Animal Clinic, Dumas Cleaners, as manager of Rex's Grocery and several years at Cut Rate Grocery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, W.E. Bill Lummus; and a sister, Sandra Lummus.
Survivors include her husband, John; two stepchildren, John Jr. and Cindy Anderson; five children, Ramona Bumpas and husband Jim, Darla Anderson, Ray Anderson and Mary, Karen Tate and husband Raymond and Debbie Eslick and husband Dale; a sister, Shirley Beard and husband Joe; an uncle, the Rev Calvin Beach and wife Juanez; an aunt, Frieda Lummus; sisters-in-law; four stepsisters; numerous grandkids; numerous great-grandkids; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Dumas Fire Department, 106 N. Bliss Ave., Dumas TX 79029; or to a favorite charity.
The family will be at 606 Melinda Lane.
