Lelia Hadley, autor, died at her home in New York. An acclaimed author, Lelia had two of her books, "Give Me the World," and "A Journey with Elsa Cloud" chosen by the NY Times as notable books of the year. Leila was a dedicated supporter of the Tibetan people serving on the board of Tibet House for many years, and endowed the Leila Hadley Luce Chair for Modern Tibeton Studies at Columbia University. She is the co-founder of Wings WorldQuest, a nonprofit dedicated to women explorers and education. She was a member of PEN, the Fishers Island Conservancy and the Explorer's Club, and was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Canadian Georgraphical Society. Leila was praticularly proud of her garden on Fisher's Island, NY which was the subject of her last book, "A Garden by the Sea". She was the widow of Henry Luce III, son of the founder of Time Magazine. She is survived by her sons Dr Arthur T Hadley III, Matthew S Elliott, DVM, daughters Victoria S Barlow and Caroline Nicholson, her eight grandchildren Holly Hadley, Matthew Elliott Jr, Allison Elliott, Fiona Finlay-Hunt, Whitney Elliott, Faith, Peoebe and George Nicholson.

Leila will be profoundly missed by her many dear fiends around the world. A memorial service is scheduled for March 10, 2009 at St Thomas Church, 5th Ave.
