OAKLAND, ME--Joan Luce Kerr of Oakland, Maine died Sunday, July 2, 2017. She experienced stroke symptoms at camp on Indian Pond, and passed the next day at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was married to the late John D. Kerr of Oakland for fifty-nine years.

Joan is survived by her three daughters; Barbara Hamilton of Decatur, GA and Scott Pettigrew of Houston, TX; Brenda Kerr and Reid Hardin of Putnam Valley, NY; Dodie and Bret King of Windham, ME; her Golden Retriever Brady; and her four grandchildren; Alisa Hamilton of Dakar, Senegal; Jason Hamilton of Hanover, Germany; Dylan King of Boulder, CO; Dana King of Windham, ME.

She was pre-deceased by her beloved Golden Retriever, Campbell; her brothers Roger and Harvey, and parents Ben and Maud Luce.

Joan lived in Oakland her entire life, graduating from Williams High School in 1955.

Joan married John on May 10th, 1958. John and Joan had their girls when they were young and in quick succession. The young family lived and thrived in Oakland and on Indian Pond. Joan was an administrative assistant for over 20 years at MSAD 47, and an enthusiastic booster of the Messalonskee High School athletic teams.

After retirement Joan and John spent much of their time "upta" camp, and in later years
in their campers. Joan was an accomplished outdoors person and when it came to
brook trout fishing she had no equal. Joan was a tough negotiator on the yard sale and
eBay scene. Joan loved to tour the yard sale circuit looking for deals on antiques and
would hold out for top dollar on anything she had posted to eBay. Joan was often seen
walking "the boy" Brady around the streets and trails of Oakland.

Joan was fun, funny, smart, vivacious, healthy, energetic, upbeat, tough, tender, nonjudgmental and wise. Joan was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, opera singer,
huntress, fisherwoman, scout, navigator, gardener, cook, fire tender, and a great
companion.

Joan loved to talk and laugh with anyone, no matter how young or old, from anywhere,
about anything. She would spend hours in the back room by the fire, or in the garage,
visiting with friends. Joan loved her family and friends, and was adored by them all.

Joan was an amazing role model for her daughters and grandchildren. Joan loved her
life and gave it her full attention; she will be greatly missed by anyone who was a part of
her life.

A memorial service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland, ME.
