Dana, IN, December 29 - Mrs. Sarah Ann Groves, who resided near here, died Saturday, December 27, 1902. She was born near Danville, IL, October 4, 1821, making her 81 years, 2 months, and 23 days of age. At about the age of 20 she came to Newport, this county, and made her home with her brother, Melvin B. Lowery, where she resided until her marriage to John A. Groves on December 1, 1845. In less than 5 years, she was left a widow with 2 children, both boys. William L., the youngest, died in 1883. Thomas J., the eldest, is still living south of Dana.
The deceased lived the most of her life near this place. During the greater part of her sojourn upon earth, she lived a consistent member of the M.E. Church. She died at the residence of O.B. Lowery, a short distance south of town, where she was visiting Mr. Lowery when stricken down. She was a noble woman, and was loved and respected by everyone. Her funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at the M.E. Church in Dana, Rev. J.E. Wright preaching the discourse, after which her remains were laid to rest in the Hollingsworth Cemetery.
