CEDAR CITY - Art Whitney Lowder passed away at Iron County Rest home from complications due to Alzheimers Disease. He was born on May 26, 1914, in Parowan, Utah. He was the 6th child of nine to William Joseph and Minnie Whitney Lowder.

He graduated from Parowan High School. He was in the CCC for one year, and then he worked for the Forest Service for two summers.

He married Golda Stubbs on September 26, 1937, in Parowan, Utah. He worked on a Dude Ranch in Wyoming as a cook for one summer, and then he worked for his brother Grant as a cook at Shady's Café, in Fillmore, Utah. He also worked as a butcher for about 15 years in the Long Beach and California Bay areas. He and Golda retired to Parowan in 1979, where they built and operated the Parowan Storage Company.

He liked to fish, & kept busy fixing granddaughters cars. He was a very generous person. He generously donated to the Parowan Medical Clinic, the Aladdin Theater and the Iron County Rest Home. He had a great sense of humor. He was a friend to everybody. He was very honest in his dealings. They spent their winters in St. George for more than 15 years before complications from Alzheimers disabled him.

Art is survived by his wife Golda, his children Patty (Bob) Jensen of Parowan, Utah; and Dennis Lowder of Parowan, Utah; and his unofficial adopted son Tim Walgren. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, twenty six great- grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Art is also survived by one sister Laurel Specht of Garden Grove, California.

Art is preceded in death by his parents, his four sisters, Roca Mitchell, Varian Halterman, Lucille Boles, Maxine Robison, and his three brothers Grant (Shady) Lowder, Elmo Lower, and Eugene Lowder, and his daughter-in-law Beverly Lowder.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2006, at 11am at the Parowan 1st and 2nd Ward Chapel. Visitations will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2006, from 6-8pm and also on Wednesday May 3, 2006, from 9:30-10:30am at the Parowan Southern Utah Mortuary. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. The Spectrum, St. George, Utah, Wednesday, 3 May 2006.
