CLEARFIELD - George Robert Long, 78, of Clearfield died August 8, 2009 in Ogden. He was born October 18, 1930 in Pueblo, CO to George Clarence and Mary Meister Long. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. George married Geneva Mae Clevenger in 1973 in Lava Hot Springs, ID.
George and Geneva owned a ranch in Pueblo, CO for many years and it was there he developed a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed riding horses, working in his flower garden, long rides in the car or horseback and he enjoyed eating. George also worked at a Steel Mill in Pueblo. They moved to Ogden to be close to family members in Utah and Colorado after his retirement.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
George is survived by his wife Geneva; children Geneta Backer of ID, Anita Welker of Clearfield, Lois (Dennis) Stephens, of CO, Luke (Cheryl) Hamilton of SLC, and Roger Lee (Revelle) Long of Roy; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and his sister Peggy Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Friends may call prior to the service from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded.
