John Calvin Litchfield was the son of David J. Litchfield and his wife, Emma J. Fletcher. He was born on August 18, 1891 in Back Bay, Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach). He was married to Virgie Aileen Lee in 1911 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. He died on May 8, 1936 at his home in Princess Anne County, Virginia. His cause of death was suicide (gunshot wound to the head). He was the Sheriff of Princess Anne County.
John's wife, Virgie Aileen Lee, was the daughter of Alonzo V. Lee and his wife, Mary Hage Shipp. She was born March 25, 1893 in Princess Anne County, Virginia. After John's death, she remarried to Clarence Lewis Avery (born February 22, 1888 in New York & died April 4, 1967 in Richmond, Virginia). Virgie died on October 28, 1970 in Richmond, Virginia. Virgie and her second husband, Clarence are also buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk (Linden Lawn, Block M, Spaces 82 & 83)
