Edward "Ed" J. Lindway, 940 Wengler Ave., Sharon, died of natural causes at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 78.

Mr. Lindway was born on Thursday, May 3, 1928, in Sharon to Stephen E. and Mary E. Bradac Lindway.

Ed was a graduate of Farrell High School Class of 1946.

He served in the U.S. Navy toward the end of World War II, then earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Grove City College and a master's in education from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed post-graduate studies under National Science Foundation grants at University of Notre Dame, University of Arkansas and University of California at Berkeley.

For 15 years Ed taught chemistry at Farrell High School. He then served as a chemistry professor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, from which he retired, later being named professor emeritus.

He was a member of St. Ann's Church, Farrell, and loved to read, bowl, garden and sing in St. Ann's Church Choir.

His wife, the former Theresa "Tessie" Bonito, whom he married Aug. 18, 1956, in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Erie, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Ronald E. Lindway, Sharon; and Michael A. Lindway, husband of Wendy, Niskayuna, N.Y.; two daughters, Tina Marie Parrish, Sharon; and Jeanne Dach, wife of Timothy, Casper, Wyo.; a brother, Andrew S. Lindway, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a sister, Wilma Rybar, Pittsburgh.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kyle Lynn, Kody Lynn, Kevin Lane and Kory Lane Parrish; Matthew John and Joshua Edward Dach; and Maggie Danielle Lindway.
