Doris Buhr was called to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday (Nov. 11, 2010). She was recovering from a recent heart surgery and was recuperating at the Country Health Nursing Home in Gifford, where she had served on the board for many years and spent many volunteer hours helping others.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1931 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Lt. Col. Daniel Lindsey and Eleonore Christians Lindsey. She married Edgar Buhr. He survives.
She is also survived by three sons, Marvin (Sherry) Buhr, Gary Buhr and Dennis (Libby) Buhr; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Carol) Lindsey; a nephew, Jay (Jodi) Lindsey and their children and a half sister, Dea Ellen Lindsey.
She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Lindsey; her mother, Eleonore Lindsey; a niece, Deanna Lindsey; her brother, Daniel Lindsey and half brother, Jake Lindsey.
She was a member of Rantoul Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. For many years she drove special education children for Rantoul, Thomasboro and Ludlow school districts.
She recently retired from Sam's Club in Champaign after 18 years of serving food samples, a job which she truly loved.
She enjoyed antiques and yard sales, cooking and gardening, and, most of all, fishing and an occasional euchre game. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Illini.
