Born July 26, 1880, in Washington, D.C., the son of Dr. Nathan Smith Lincoln, a physician and surgeon and Jeanie (Gould) Lincoln, author, who was elected a member of the Society of American Authors in 1899. His relatives includes his great-great-grandfather, Hon. Uriah Tracy, great-grandfather, Judge James Gould, grandfathers, George Gould, and Rev. Increase Sumner Lincoln. George had one sibling, Natalie Sumner Lincoln, well known author of mystery novels.

Yale graduate, class of 1902. Prepared at the Friends' School, Washington, D.C., where he went out for baseball, football and track. In college he made the Freshman Crew and the Varsity Four-Oar and in Senior year coached the Freshman Crew and was a member of the Wigwam Debating Club. His societies were Delta Kappa Epsilon and Wolf 's Head.

He married on May 20, 1909 Hester Shepard, daughter of Judge Seth Shepard, justice of the Court of Appeals. They had one daughter, Hester Shepard, born December 13, 1910, one son Nathan Sumner, born January 05, 1915 and another daughter, Marjorie Gould, born May 12, 1918. After the death of Hester, George married a second time to Elizabeth Wilder.

A devoted political journalist for over 70 years, he has been connected with the Times, Post and Star, all of Washington and was a correspondent for the Grand Rapids News, Birmingham-News and other papers. He was awarded the Presidential Metal of Freedom Award for journalism, by President Richard M Nixon, in Washington, D.C. April 22, 1970 at the age 90.
