He was born in Freedom May 28, 1876, the son of Sidney M. and Harriet Byington Lewis. Four sisters preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on October 31, 1906, to Minnie M. Leonard who passed away July 12, 1953. Later he was married to Grace Lawrence Francis, who died four years ago.
After operating a farm near Bliss for many years Mr. Lewis retired and moved to Sandusky, where he resided until his death.
He was an active member of the Bliss Grange, having held several offices during his long membership. He was also a member of Pomona, New York State and National Grange.
Surviving him is a foster son, George Green Jr. of Bliss; two nephews, Lewis and Leo Cook of Gainesville; and four cousins Miss Carrie Byington, Mrs. Mary Clark and Charles Byington of Centerville and Mrs. Flora Eaton of Fonda, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted at the Persons Funeral Home in Delevan at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, May 9, by the Rev. Harold Tucker. Burial was in the Freedom Cemetery.
