Ingeborg F. Battiato, age 93, of Waterloo and formerly of Queens, New York, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
She was born March 16, 1919 in New Jersey, the daughter of Leo and Emma Ischdonot Lewin. She married Charles Battiato on June 20, 1944 in Elizabeth, N.J. He died on August 18, 1969.
Mrs. Battiato was a homemaker and also worked as a cashier at the United Artist Theater in Queens, New York for 10 years. She was Past President of PTA at PS93 in Ridgewood, NY and served as an election board inspector. She was a member of Trinity-St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Maspeth, Queens, New York.
Mrs. Battiato moved to Iowa in December 1993. She was well known for her crocheting skills and made numerous afghans, baby booties, blankets and other items for people around the Cedar Valley.
Survivors include a son, Steven Battiato of Waterloo; 3 daughters, Joanann Boyer of Waterloo; Inger Battiato Bosco of Orlando, FL and Janet Di Stefano of Long Island, NY; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Charles and 2 brothers, Erwin & William Lewin.
There will be no local services. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.
