Wife of Henry Clay Letcher. Henry and Emily had 6 known children, only Five living in 1900; Teeby Edward, Mandie Letcher Bratton, Luke Alexander, Louise "Lou", and John Clay Letcher. Emily death certificate indicates her parents were William "Billy" & Martha Sharp.

1870 Census Bowie County TX, Emily is 13 yrs old, living with her family, next door to her future husband Henry Letcher, who is single in 1870.

Emily's death certificate shows born 1863, all of the census records show her born at different times. I believe the 1870 & 1880 were correct, which shows her born 1857/1858. There was daughter 'Ada' born 1871, this was probably a child from Henry's 1st marriage. 1910 Census shows that Emily had 6 children with 5 surviving, it appears Ada married or died between 1880 and 1900. The 1900 census shows Henry and Emily were married for 20 years, the 1910 Census indicates Henry had 2 marriages, and they were married 26 years, if this is true, then Ada on the 1880 was a child from Henry's first marriage, and also means we are missing 1 child of Henry and Emily that died between census, before 1900.

If the 1910 census is correct, and Henry and Emily were married for 26 years, that places the marriage about 1883 and 1884, at the birth of their first child Teeby E Letcher born Aug 24, 1884.

After Henry's death, and on the 1930 census of Bowie Co TX, Emily is living with her son Teeby L letcher, and she is shown to be 73 yrs old. again placing her age in dispute. 1880 Census Emily is 22 yrs old, 1900 census 42, 1910 Census 50 yrs old, 1920 64yrs, 1930 73 yrs old. Death certificate shows birth as; Aug 15th, 1863, which had been crossed out and retyped as 1863. DC indicates 72 yrs 11 mo's, and 15 Days, at time of death. This date of course was from a relatives best memory, and is probably in error.
