Sister Maris Stella Leonard, 96, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died February 9, 2013 at Mother Joseph Manor.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Maris Stella will be Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent, Aberdeen, SD. A Scriptural Wake service will be Monday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Reverend Michael Kelly, will be celebrant and homilist.

Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Friday, February 15, at 4:00 p.m. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Stella Leonard was born April 28, 1916 in Armour, SD to Anne (Hirtz) and George Leonard. She attended elementary school in Armour and graduated from Armour High School in 1934.

Stella entered Presentation Convent January 28, 1935 and made her first profession of vows August 12, 1937. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern State University in 1940 and a Master's Degree in Education from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI in 1964. Sister ministered in many of the diocesan schools as teacher and administrator (1936-1990): Huron, Mitchell, Milbank, Madison, Dell Rapids, Aberdeen, Huron, SD and Willmar and Anoka, MN. She returned to Presentation Convent and worked in the Altar Bread Department from 1992-2000. For several years she was a tutor to foreign students and those in need of educational assistance.

Sister Maris Stella is survived by her community family of Presentation Sisters, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
