Betty was born July 28, 1916 in Deepwater, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Walkup) Huston. She graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri in 1937 and taught English for one year in Brownington, Missouri.
On August 21, 1938 she married Homer (Red) Leech. They made their home in Odessa, Missouri for two years. In 1940, they moved to Carrollton, Missouri. Betty was involved in both community and church. She was past president of the Carrollton Library Board, held offices in the Carrollton Woman's Club, was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Carrollton Country Club. She taught at Carrollton High School for many years and was sponsor of the Trojannes Pep Club. Betty wrote the words to the CHS Alma Mater and also the "C With An A" rally call.
Survivors include her husband of seventy-one years, Homer, of the home, daughter, Sarah Jane Famuliner and husband, Dennis, Carrollton, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Joanne Leech, Lee's Summit, Missouri, a sister, Margaret Croker and husband, Walter, St. Louis, Missouri, brother-in-law, Robert Leech and wife, Louinne, Monticello, Arkansas, two granddaughters, Jill Leech, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Jennifer Shaw and husband, Chad, Oak Grove, Missouri, and a grandson, Jeff Leech, Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Her parents, one son, John Leech, and an infant daughter, Cindy, preceded her in death.
Memorial graveside services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
