Bertha Kuhnell Lemaster, 96, of Lubbock passed away Friday, December 20 at her home. She was born in Gretna, Louisiana on September 15, 1917 to Pedar and Ida Kuhnell.

Bertha married Don Lemaster on July 27, 1940 in Dallas, Texas where both grew up, and was married to Don for 69 years, living in Lubbock for most of those years. Her daughter Donna of New York City, her niece and nephews Marguerite McGraw (Richard), Chris Castellaw (Erika), and Steve Strange, as well as her "Yankee daughter", Antoinette Ercolano, survive her. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Her sweet Don, her parents, and her sisters Beulah Strange, Elizabeth Felton, and Patricia Castellaw, and her nephew Frank Felton predeceased her.

After graduating from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, Bertha worked as an administrative assistant for Lawrence Marcus in the early days of Neiman-Marcus, before working at the Office of Price Administration during World War II. After moving to Lubbock she worked at Southland Life Insurance, keeping the office organized. She loved beautiful things, indoors and out, especially her peonies and roses.

Bertha was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving on building and decorating committees during key times in the growth of the church. She loved sports and faithfully followed football, women's basketball and the Olympics.

A memorial service will be held December 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be Friday, December 27 at the Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.

Flowers may be sent to Sanders Funeral Home, or donations made to South Plains Food Bank or the Presbyterian Children's Home.
