HOWE -- Douglas F. LeMaster Sr., 90, of Howe, died at his home Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army's 11th Airborne Division. As a parachute combat liaison officer, Capt. LeMaster participated in campaigns in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Elkhart to Zaner R. and Lucile (Lesh) LeMaster. He was married to Vivian C. Chapman on Jan. 1, 1944, in Kannapolis, N.C. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2006.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jean Richard "Dick" LeMaster.
Surviving are a son, Douglas F. Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Anita (Espich) LeMaster, of Bluffton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles R. LeMaster of Fort Wayne.
According to his wish, his body will be cremated. Burial will take place at a later date in Horeb Cemetery, Uniondale. Frurip-May Funeral Home in Lagrange is assisting the family with arrangements.
