Longtime Engadine, Michigan, resident, Earl Anthony LeGault, 76, died unexpectedly Sunday morning June 15, 2008 while working on one of his woodlots near his home.
Born November 24, 1931 in Gould City, Michigan, son of the late Arthur Sr. and Eva (Butkovich) LeGault, Earl was a 1949 graduate from Engadine Consolidated Schools. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army in 1949, served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was promoted to the rank of Corporal, HQ BTRY 61st Field Artillery Battalion and was honorably discharged in September of 1952.
Earl started and ran a successful building business for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Engadine V.F.W. Post #8372 and the Newberry Elks Lodge #1705. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, enjoying hunting, working on his woodlots, gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors included his loving wife of 55 years, the former Joyce Ann Matchinski, whom he married June 6, 1953 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine; children Susan (Kenneth) Reed of Wetumpka, AL, Larry E. of Engadine, Laura Krick of Ionia and Crystal (James) Anderson of Brimley; four grandchildren; siblings Arthur Jr. (Leatha), Peter (Ruthann), Thomas (Judy) and Carl (Sharon) all of Engadine, Mary Rose of Naubinway and Agnes Pardo of Eaton Rapids.
At request, cremation services were accorded.
Memorial service: Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine with Pastor Arthur Bode officiating.
