Ethel Lawter Elder, 83, of Chesnee, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 07, 2010, surrounded by her family. Born August 10, 1926, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Trent and Nannie Lawter.
She retired from Raycord & Co. as a supervisor after 45 years of service. As a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church she served as the four/five year old Sunday School class teacher for over 30 years and was an active member of the senior citizens group. She was an avid gardner, great cook, precious mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her entire family and will be remembered for her sweet smile and love for her Lord.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Oree; a son, Roy and Barbara Elder of Chesnee, SC; and a daughter, Patsy and Bob Trout of Boiling Springs; grandchildren, Derrick and Charlotte Elder, Jason and Michelle Bagwell, David and Melanie Pruett, all of Boiling Springs, and Patrick and Monica Zarb of Calgary, Canada; six great-grandchildren, Jenni and Clayton Elder, Jamison and Macy Bagwell, Emily and Jackson Pruett; and also survived by one brother, Paul Lawter. She was predeceased by her brothers, Boyce Lee Lawter, Carl Lawter, Richard Lawter, and TJ Lawter; and one sister, Olema Bridges.
Memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Buck Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Larry Fleming. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Lawter, Jerry Elder, Donnie Elder, Glenn Williams, Glenn Lawter, Ira Elder, Eddie Williams, Steve Van-Dyke.
