WEST COLUMBIA - Services for Gladys Elizabeth Lawter DeHart Rivers, 86, of West Columbia, will be held at noon Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Steven M. Cloud. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Union officiated by the Rev. Gideon Long. Visitation will be from 11 until noon at the church prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church. Mrs. Rivers, widow of Grover DeHart and S. W. Rivers, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. Born in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Nathaniel and Ila Dona Blanton Lawter.
Mrs. Rivers was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, a member of the XYZ and Silver Saints Singers, and a charter volunteer for Lexington County Hospital for over 25 years. Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Daus (Bill Curts) of Bradenton, Fla., Glenda Lawson (Wayne); step-daughter, Gail Murphy (Allen) of Lexington; step-son, Rick Rivers (Jean) of Lexington; sister, Margie Griffin of Spartanburg; grandchildren, David Lawson (Donna) of Union, Troy Lawson (Jennifer) of Jonesville, Jo Ann Daus Weld (Carlos) of Tallahassee, Fla.; five great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rivers was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is handling arrangements.
