"Austin Rogers Lawrence, 86, of Foster Lane, who retired after 30 years as a colonel with the Army, died Saturday at home.
Mr. Lawrence was born in Flushing, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1986 from Falls Church, Va. He was a member of The Retired Teachers (should be Officer's) Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696, the Virginia Club, Palm Coast Yacht Club and past commander of the Military Order of the World Wars. He was an avid ornithologist having been involved with the Virginia and Florida Audubon societies. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and the College of Forestry. Mr. Lawrence enjoyed birding, traveling and stamp collecting.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marguerite; three sons, Robert, Palm Coast, and Austin "Larry" and Stephen, both of Burke, Va.; a daughter, Patricia Pope, Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth Mead, Charlottesville, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, for the Stewart F. Meyer Hospice House, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
