BESSIE B. LAW DIES WEDNESDAY AT HER HOME

Mrs. Bessie B. Law, 69, pioneer of Delta and beloved friend of everyone, died Wednesday morning at her home in Delta after a lingering illness. A daughter of William G. and Jane Walton Bickley, she was born December 18, 1878 in Beaver where she attended school and lived until 1905. She married Robert J. Law October 18, 1896 and the two owned and operated a store in Delta for 33 years. Mr. Law died December 11, 1944. Mrs. Law was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints, having served nine years as president of the first Delta primary, 14 years on the Stake Relief Society Board, four years on the YIMIA Stake Board and 30 years as organist of the Delta First Ward. She was past president of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the first president of the Delta American Legion Auxiliary Arthur L. Cahoon Post 89. For two years she served as State Chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Law was prominent in music circles. As a child, she had unusual ability in music, having composed many pieces before the age of 12. She has since written the music to numerous songs, many of which are well known and sung in LDS choirs. She recently won first prize for her centennial song in the West Millard Contest. One of her most beautiful songs was written for a friend whose son had died. When her own son, Rondo was killed in the early part of World War II, it was sung at his funeral services. She organized her children into an orchestra conducting it herself. They played in various wards in Millard County using musical selections of her own composition. Survivors include nine daughters and sons; W. LeGrande Law and Frank Law, Delta; Mrs. Orena Gottfredson, Caliente, Nevada; Mrs. Dycle Frandsen, Inglewood, California; Mrs. Iris Hartle, Richfield; Mrs. Verda Hatch, Bountiful; Mrs. Nina Reeve,Yuba City, California; Mrs. Elcee Hodson, Los Angeles; and Mrs. Evelyn Cropper, Deseret; 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Nelson Draper and Mrs. Agnes Woodbury, Hinckley. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 24 at 2 p.m. in the Delta First Ward. Bishop Wallace Jeffery will officiate. Friends may call Saturday and Sunday at the family home prior to the services.
