Mildred Laux Adams, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away September 6, 2011, at the age of 92.

Mildred was born to Stephen Joseph and Anna Basler Laux on February 23, 1919 in Morrilton, Arkansas.

She was educated at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Morrilton, graduating in 1936. Mildred was a woman ahead of her time, working for several businesses in Morrilton before taking a position with Southern Railway, moving to Washington, DC and Jacksonville, Florida during World War II.

Following WWII, Mildred moved to Little Rock, where she worked in the insurance business and met Skipwith Winfield Adams Jr., whom she married in 1952. Skip and Mildred had one daughter, Jane, who was born in 1954. Mildred continued to work in the insurance business, serving as office manager in her husband Skip's agency. She later worked for the Arkansas Council of Retail Merchants and in the secretarial pool at the Arkansas Legislature, a job which she found most interesting, as it kept her up to date with statewide events.

In 2000, Skip and Mildred moved from their home in Little Rock to Austin, to be near their daughter Jane. Skip passed away in May 2003. Mildred moved to the Assisted Living area of Heartland Healthcare Center in January 2005, where she made many friends and enjoyed the various activities offered.

Mildred had many interests, particularly traveling In 1952, she and a girlfriend went on a guided tour of Europe. In 1984, Mildred returned to Europe with her daughter Jane, locating relatives in the Laux family in Germany. They returned to Germany to visit these relatives in 1986 and 1990. Mildred looked forward to visiting Jane when Jane lived in Washington, DC, Dallas, and Austin. Mildred also loved to play tennis and won several competitions at Riverdale Country Club. She loved to sew and do needlework and her attention to detail was amazing. She was interested in gardening and loved working in the yard. She could fix anything that broke. One of Mildred's claims to fame while at Heartland Healthcare Center was her prowess in the area of spelling. Mildred also was a dedicated volunteer, working for the Arkansas Territorial Restoration and serving on the Altar Society of Holy Souls Catholic Church. She loved animals of all kinds, particularly her "granddogs" Sarah, Dancer, Poppy, Clem, Zelda, and Glory.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Skipwith W. Adams, parents Steve and Anna Laux, sisters Clara Loh and Dorothy Montgomery, and brothers Herbert Laux and Gerald Laux.

She is survived by her daughter.
